Polarr Photo Editor Pro App Reviews

Even better than before!

The latest update (3.1.0) of Polarr really made this application shine! While I’m not big on the face detection stuff, it seems to work really well for what it’s meant for. So for the people that do use face detection and need those specific touch-up tools, I think they will find it very useful! The latest version of Polarr is extremely zippy and performs extremely well with RAW files. Honestly, the simplicity of the app is what makes it so great. If you’re a pro or an amature, I think there’s tons of value to be had. The only thing that I wish the app had was a better wat to manage your timeline / galary that you’re working on. Polarr gives lightroom a run for it’s money IMO. If you just used Lightroom, Aperture, or even iPhoto JUST for editing, I think you’ll find that Polarr can perform just as well. If you need cataloging and album sorting, right now, it’s not the app for you. I still highly recommend it though! It’s a great editor and it get’s the job done FAST! Plus, the ability to edit on your mobile and push it to the desktop or vice versa is just cool!

LOVE <3

As someone who avoids having a photo taken at all costs, this app takes all the pain away! Now that social media and having one’s picture out there is everything, you’ll definately want to have this to ensure you have the best version of yourself or whomever or whatever you decide to put out there. Totally and completely worth the money though at $1.99 it’s a steal. Do it!

no RAW support!

No Raw support, no PSD support. This software is not for professional processing. the organization of filters is too complex.

Rendering problems persist on an iMac 5K Retina

Though the developer quickly responded to my bug report, and published updates to address them, both the v3.2.0 desktop and Photos extension versions continue to have “rendering problems” when used on a late 2015 iMac 5K Retina display (at least in my case) running El Capitan v10.11.6. 1) The crop tool boundary offsets to the left side of an image, and you cannot move the crop boundary to the right side. 2) The Brush/masking tool effect displays to the right of where the cursor brushed the effect on an image. 3) The Brush/mask tool displays as a mouse pointer when used within the Photos extension (the desktop version displays a normal, round, brush outline). I’m confident the developer will be successful at resolving these issues quickly.

Pretty & supports RAW

Even if at first you have to spend a little time learning all the tools, you quickly adjust and can breeze through them after that. On just a slightly superficial note, the UI is the prettiest and most professional-looking of any photo editor I’ve used. Also, I was happy to find that RAW works, which is important because it’s my preferred format, and the web editor was not quite so adept. The filters (custom and pre-set) seem pretty similar to previous versions— so it’s personal opinion whether you like them or not, but by this point I’ve saved several custom filters that I love for quick edits. It’s also surprisingly fast, there are no delays when adjusting the sliders, which can make all the difference when fine-tuning. The detailed edit history has also come in handy a bunch of times…All in all, definitely worth it.

RAW editor

Finally a high powered editor for RAW photos that is affordable. Some useful tools are the ability to save a personal filter so you do not have to recreate the same adjustments for a batch of photos. It makes it easier to adjust individual photos from that filter. If it is your first time using Polarr take advantage of the tutorial that instructs you through adjusting a pre-uploaded photo. This is a great introduction to what some of the tools can do. The program is very user friendly and easy to learn. The history feature is great because you do not lose quality of your original file and you can go back to any section of editing you wish.

Sleek!

Awesome, well designed app that does almost everything you need for quick postprocessing!

Great even for newbies

Polar makes photo editing very accessible even to inexperienced users like me. The tutorials were helpful when getting started, there’s infinite undo so you can always recover from your mistakes, and the preset filters are nice too. 2 thumbs up! Excited to explore more.

very powerful

Very powerful photo editor

Really Nice with Helpful Tutorials

My photo editiing skills are in the low to intermediate range. Polarr helps me make hte most of what I can do. The tutorials are really helpful. In fact, they’ve also helped my work in other apps. Polarr really hit the sweet spot with this app. I’ve been able to dramatically improve some of the pictures I’ve taken, both with my 6S and a6000. The one feature Polarr really needs is a Photos extension. I knew it didn’t have one, when I purchased the app, so it’d be unfair to knock it a star, because of its absence. In summary, there are a few take-aways for those considering this app: 1. Polarr will make the most of your skills, if you’re not a PhotoShop expert. 2. You’ll learn some skills that you’ll be able to practice in other photo editing apps. 3. I didn’t mention this previously, but Polarr is seriously powerful.

THE BEST OF THE BEST…POLARR PHOTO EDITOR

Polarr Photo Editor has been used by me ever since it first came out. Right from the git go one could see the efforts and workmanship that the team put into this photo editor. At present, I consider it the best App to go to for all your photo editing. It has absolutely everything one needs to make your photos (and I want to add…paintings) beautiful, outstanding and in every way get the best results with the least amount of effort. You can put in as much work as possible, or just use some of the outstanding features of this app. It is up to you. The results are amazing. You will not be sorry you have invested in Polarr Photo Editor. It competes excellently with the others out there and then exceeds them all!!! I’d like to add…the updates are all well laid out and planned and satisfy the most avid photographer and/or painter…whether amateur or professional. I would definitely recommend Polarr Photo Editor to my friends and anyone who might ask me about it. Sincerely, Margaret A. Buono

great app especially in the browser

The Polarr apps looks beautiful and has nice functionality in between the Photos App and more heavy duty software like Photoshop. It has all the functionality you could wish for and even supports raw and preset filters. One thing which is missing is good picture navigator as right now you have to import all then pictures selectively. For me the most impressive part is that the team managed to build the same functionality into a webapp which really shows the capabilities the skill of theur engineers and designer as well as the power of Html5 and the future of all kinds of apps on the web!

Amazing Photo Editor!

This is an amazing photo editor for those looking for an alternative to Lightroom. I’ve been a lightroom user for many years and have switched to Polarr for my editing needs. The interface is very intuitive and the ease of use is incredible. Everything you need is easily accessible and you don’t have to dig through menu’s to get to anything. The tutorials are great to get you going, though in all honesty the application has been so easy to use I haven’t really needed the tutorials at all. I recommend you go through the first one as it really shows the power of this editor and how easy it is to get great results. I have multiple Nikon DSLR’s and I’ve edited RAW files from each one with no problems. The images have come out exactly like they would have from Lightroom. In fact I did a comparison between the two programs using the same photos and had pretty much the exact results from Polarr as I did Lightroom. If anything, it took less time in Polarr and that was even with using Lightroom for years and being very comfortable with it. I’d recommend this for anyone who is looking to edit their photos and needs something light and easy to edit with. The performance has been great as I have not had any lag or have had to wait for any filters to be applied. Everything is pretty snappy on my 2014 MBP 13. Where I may not recommend, and some may ask why I still give it 5-stars and I’ll get to that in a moment, is that this is for all intents and purposes, the best photo editor I have used to date. Now, I say photo editor, not photo suite. What’s the difference you ask? Polarr is a photo-editor. You get powerful editing tools for your photos. What do you not get? You won’t get a fancy way of cataloging your photos and tagging photos with faces and locations. However you will get a photo editor that has all of the tools you need to edit and adjust your photos, which in the end of the day is what the majority of people want to do. Amazing photo editor with powerful tools and a great interface. Give this a shot over Lightroom and you won’t be sorry! Keep in mind that you won’t be getting the cataloging abilities and as long as that isn’t a problem, this is the photo editor you’ve been dreaming of!

Web app in a native app frame

Polarr is likely the best online photo editor out there. The fact it uses Web technology makes it work the same across all platforms. However, when I paid $9.90 for this program to download it from the App Store, I expected an actual, native Mac application. The expectation for a Mac program is that it uses native Mac OS application libraries and Mac OS user interface elements. Polarr for Mac uses Webkit for the entire window, there are no Mac OS elements. There is one major difference though: with the paid version you get RAW editing, which is more expensive to upgrade through the Chrome web store.

Impressed by the features

This is an easy to use and yet feature-packed photo editor. My Mac’s built-in viewer was very limited, as is the iCloud Photos app. So I was looking for something more powerful to to enhance or fix family pictures. After using Polarr to edit many pics, I really liked how I can drag the angle adjustment bar to straighten many of our skewed photos. There are literally over 100 filters to pick from, so it’s nice how I can with 1 click do a A/B comparison of before/after image side by side. I’m also impressed by, with this low-cost app, how you can designate a “radial mask” to select a specific area and apply effects only to it. Another plus is that it only takes up very little space, which matters to me because I only have 128GB storage. Highly recommended.

Not an wasy app for novices and no decent resize tool

Very disappointed in the lack of ease of this program and there is no decent way to resize photos into inches, one of the main reasons I purchased it.

want my money back

It will not open any files .raw .jpeg it keeps telling my the files are too big. I use lightroom all the time it never complains what I throw at it. Not for professionals.

Love the filter!

This app could not be easier to use!I have several photo editor on my Macbook, but this is the best one. It’s awesome and easy to use with beautiful features and effects. This app makes my photo looks so professional, and I can’t wait for the new updates ahead!Love it,keep improving!!

Remarkable Photo Editor for Intermediate-Level Users!

I was looking for a photo editor that was intermediate between the capabilities of Photos/iPhoto and the complex, feature-heavy, Photoshop-type programs. This application fits the bill perfectly. Very powerful, intuitive photo adjustment tools, with simple one-click filters and a nice workspace layout. The program is quite easy to learn, with an in-app guide to the photo editing tools. The photo adjustments are all non-destructive, so one can revert back through the history to any previous version. This program is strictly a high-quality editor, with no photo managment tools (I use Photos for this). Highly recommended! UPDATE on 2/6/16: The development team at Polarr has now indicated that they plan to include a Photos extension in their March 2016 update of this excellent program. When used alongside the exising Photos extensions from Macphun (Intensify, Noiseless, Snapheal, etc.) and others, intermediate-level photographers will soon potentially have a seamless workflow entirely within Photos — including both in-depth photo editing and photo management capabilities.

Intuitive, Effective, Fast, and Stable

Polarr is an excellent application. The default interface is beautiful and sports a set of easily adjustable parameters and filters that make the task of editing a photo easy and creative. I havent tried to the new Photos extension feature but am looking forward to it. Importantly, the developer seems highly motivated to make this excellent application even better.
